Kanahā Beach Park Community Vision Workshop

The meeting was December 1st 2015 at the Velma Santos Center in Wailuku Maui.

Meeting Objective: To provide an opportunity for the broader community to share its ideas and perspectives on the existing and future use of Kanaha Beach Bark and to build community awareness of and support for the master planning process.

Please join us on Saturday, November 28,
for the second tree planting at Keopuolani Park in Kahului.

Maui Green & Beautiful in partnership with the Maui County Arborist Committee and the MC Department of Parks & Recreation will be planting 22 trees at the picnic/restroom area above the soccer fields. The entrance to the park is near the MACC. The tree holes will be dug for us by the Maui County Parks & Recreation department.

Maui County Planting Plan Leaps Legislative Hurdle

The “Economic Development, Energy, Agriculture, and Recreation Committee” of the Maui County Council recommended adoption of the Maui County Planting Plan, Third Edition after hearing testimony by community members at it’s meeting September 29th. As a result it will now be examined by the full council and have public hearing.

DSC_5772-960x400This “Maui County Planting Plan” is the third edition, revised, and it’s main author and the Planting Plan Project Coordinator is Ernest Rezents and been prepared by the Maui County Arborist Committee.

Mr. Rezents is Maui’s own highly respected tree expert. Mr. Rezents has voluntarily worked 14 years on this updated revision that is filled with so much information that can be used by professionals in the landscape industry as well as the community. The Maui County Arborist Committee volunteers worked with Ernest to complete this document. Maui County was the first in the state to have such a document.

The over 200 page document covers chapters on:

  • Objectives, Policies, and Provisions
  • Street and Highway Median Tree Program
  • Park, Greenway, and Open Space Program
  • Parking lot Trees
  • Exceptional Tree Program
  • Standards for Planting, Pruning and Maintaining Trees
